WHAT WE BELIEVE
At Watkins Community Church, we believe that our greatest need is not a better version of ourselves, but the redeeming grace of God through Jesus Christ. The gospel is not simply the doorway into the Christian life, it is the foundation upon which the entire Christian life is built. Because of that, everything we do as a church is centered on knowing Christ, loving Christ, and making Him known.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
-
We believe there is one true and living God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Equal in glory, power, and majesty, He is the Creator, Sustainer, and sovereign Lord over all things, accomplishing all things according to His perfect wisdom and will.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; Isaiah 46:9–10; Ephesians 1:11; Revelation 4:11
-
We believe that God the Father is the first Person of the Holy Trinity, possessing all the attributes of deity and sharing equally in glory, majesty, and power with the Son and the Holy Spirit. As the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, He accomplishes all things according to the counsel of His perfect will for His own glory.
We believe that the Father lovingly sent His Son into the world to accomplish redemption for sinners and graciously adopts all who trust in Christ as His beloved children. He faithfully provides for His people, hears their prayers, disciplines them in love, and preserves them by His grace until the day of redemption.
We believe that all worship, honor, and obedience belong to the Father, through the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:1; Psalm 103:13–19; Matthew 6:9–13; John 3:16–17; John 6:37–40; Romans 8:14–17; Ephesians 1:3–6; Philippians 2:13; James 1:17; 1 John 3:1
-
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, who lived a sinless life, died in the place of sinners, rose bodily from the dead, and will return again in glory.
John 1:1–14; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:11 -
We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, empowering a life of obedience, holiness, and faithful witness.
John 14:16–17; Romans 8:9–17; Galatians 5:22–25; Ephesians 1:13–14 -
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and sufficient Word of God, our final authority for faith and life.
2 Timothy 3:16–17; Psalm 19:7–11; 2 Peter 1:20–21 -
We believe that every person is created in the image of God but is separated from Him because of sin.
Genesis 1:26–27; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1–3 -
We believe that salvation is entirely the work of God's grace. Because of Christ's life, death, and resurrection, sinners are forgiven and reconciled to God through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by works or personal merit. Those who trust in Christ are justified, adopted as God's children, sanctified by the Holy Spirit, and kept by God's power until the end.
Scripture: John 3:16–18; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:21–28; Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:8–10; Titus 3:4–7; Philippians 1:6
-
We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, called to worship God, make disciples, serve one another, and proclaim the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 2:42–47; Ephesians 4:11–16; 1 Peter 2:9–10 -
We believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to judge the living and the dead. There will be a bodily resurrection of all people. Those who belong to Christ will enjoy eternal life in God's presence, while those who reject Him will face eternal judgment. God will create a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells forever.
John 5:28–29; Acts 17:31; 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; Revelation 20:11–15; Revelation 21:1–5
-
Because God has graciously saved us through Jesus Christ, we exist to glorify Him by making disciples who delight in His Word, grow in His grace, love one another deeply, and faithfully proclaim the gospel until Christ returns.
Matthew 28:18–20; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 1:28–29; 2 Corinthians 5:17–21
-
We believe Jesus Christ gave His Church two ordinances: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism is the public profession of faith in Christ and symbolizes union with His death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord's Supper is a continual remembrance of Christ's atoning sacrifice and a proclamation of His death until He returns.

We believe that God created humanity in His image as male and female, equal in dignity and worth yet distinct by His design. We believe marriage is a sacred covenant established by God, uniting one man and one woman in a lifelong, exclusive relationship that reflects the covenant love between Christ and His Church.
We believe that sexual intimacy is a good gift from God and is to be expressed only within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Any sexual expression outside of God's design, including adultery, fornication, homosexual practice, pornography, and all forms of sexual immorality is a sin.
We believe that every person is created in the image of God and should be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. We affirm that all people, regardless of their past or present struggles, are invited to find forgiveness, hope, and new life through faith in Jesus Christ. The gospel offers both grace for the sinner and power for a life increasingly conformed to God's design.
We believe that parents bear the primary responsibility for the spiritual nurture and instruction of their children, while the church is called to partner with families by encouraging, equipping, and supporting them in raising the next generation to know and follow Christ.
Scripture: Genesis 1:26–28; Genesis 2:18–25; Matthew 19:4–6; Romans 1:24–27; 1 Corinthians 6:9–11, 18–20; Ephesians 5:22–33; Ephesians 6:1–4; Colossians 3:18–21; Hebrews 13:4

We believe that God created angels as spiritual beings to worship Him and carry out His purposes. Holy angels serve God, minister to His people, and rejoice in His redemptive work. Satan is a fallen angel who, along with other demons, rebelled against God and now opposes His kingdom by seeking to deceive, tempt, and destroy. Though believers are engaged in a spiritual battle, Christ has decisively conquered Satan through His death and resurrection. Satan's power is limited by God's sovereign authority, and his final judgment is certain. Believers therefore need not fear the powers of darkness but are called to stand firm in Christ through faith, prayer, and the truth of God's Word.
